Why study English?
This one-year revision course is challenging and fast-paced. This is a great way to boost your existing grade.
What will I study?
You’ll improve your creative and practical writing skills, study poetry, Shakespeare and non-fiction texts and take part in drama, group discussions and presentations.
How will I be assessed?
40% of the marks are awarded for two examinations, each lasting one hour, and inviting you to demonstrate not only your writing skills but also your understanding of passages of writing.
Unit 1: Studying Written Language (20%)
Unit 2: Using Written Language (20%)
30% of the overall mark is awarded for your Controlled Conditions pieces which replace the old coursework folder.
The remaining 30% will be awarded for your contributions in Speaking and Listening Exercises, including class discussions, group work, pair work, role playing and individual presentations (20%) and a study of spoken language (10%).
What are the entry requirements?
You will need a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3 or above. Specifically a grade 3 will be required in GCSE English.

Completion of a GCSE English at Grade 4 or above enables students to move on to a wide range of Level 3 courses including A Levels and BTEC Extended Diploma.
