Pre-degree foundation diploma: Pre-Degree Foundation Diploma in Art & Design
Why study Pre-Degree Foundation Diploma in Art & Design ?
The Foundation Diploma is a great programme to study post A Level or BTEC Diploma, if you aim to study art and design at university. It’s a hands-on, practical course, assessed continually through coursework with lots of opportunities to try new things, develop your technical skills and discover what inspires you as an artist.
What will I study?
The course comprises three stages: exploratory, pathway and confirmatory. You will be able to specialise in your chosen area of art and design through the ‘pathway’ stage, and negotiate your own brief as the focus of your ‘final major project’. At the end of your course, you will be required to hang your own exhibition of work, before your course culminates with a high profile public exhibition in July. A strength of the course is your individual development whilst working with specialised, practising artists/teachers who actively seek to promote excellence and quality in art and design. This programme will prepare you for entry into the country’s top art and design Higher Education institutions.
How will I be assessed?
This will be through practical projects across ‘Exploratory’ & ‘Pathway’ stages of the course, alongside a final major project of your choice in your intended specialism. We normally look for successful completion of art & design related A Levels, or a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma. At interview, you will be required to discuss your portfolio of work with one of the art teachers.
What are the entry requirements?
The normal entry requirements for the one year Pre-Degree programme is five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, two A Levels which must include an art or design based specialism, or a BTEC Extended Diploma with a Merit profile. You’ll be asked to show us your portfolio of work at interview.
